In a recent article, I talked about the Vanguard Dividend Appreciation ETF (NYSEARCA:VIG), calling it one of my favorites among the dividend ETFs. Vanguard has another highly rated dividend ETF in its arsenal, the Vanguard High Dividend Yield ETF (NYSEARCA:VYM). While it doesn't utilize the same Dividend Aristocrat strategy as the Dividend Appreciation ETF, it seems to share a lot of the characteristics that the Dividend Appreciation ETF and other highly rated dividend funds do.
Income investors will immediately be attracted to the fund's 3.2% dividend yield. This rate is comparable to other five-star dividend ETFs like the Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF (NYSEARCA:SCHD) and the iShares Select Dividend ETF (NYSEARCA:DVY), and is well above the 2% yield of the S&P 500. The fund's razor-thin 0.09% expense ratio is one of the lowest you'll find, and its mandate to eliminate riskier securities like REITs and small caps right off the bat helps reduce volatility.
